Character's History
Simon Belmont is the son of Trevor Belmont and Sypha. When Trevor embarked on a personal mission to destroy Dracula, who he felt by his actions had disgraced the Belmont name, he imparted to Sypha a request that she flee with Simon into the woods should he not return. As he prepared to leave, Trevor hugged his son and entrusted to him a special amulet, which he implored that Simon always keep on his person. Sadly, the worst-case scenario came to pass: Trevor's campaign had failed and Dracula took revenge for the assassination attempt by ordering his minions to destroy the Brotherhood fortress that protected the family's village. Honoring her husband's request, Sypha grabbed Simon by the hand and escaped to the nearby woodland. However, the forces of darkness were relentless and eventually caught up to the elusive pair; Sypha shielded her son and took the brunt of the monsters' attack, sacrificing her life so that he might live on. Simon somehow survived the assault and found himself orphaned. He was found by the mountain tribes of Wallachia and raised as one of their own. Though scarred by the circumstances surrounding his mother's death, his dreams haunted by the recurring image of her final moments, Simon trained diligently and grew to be a fearsome barbarian. He vowed to avenge his family and forever end the rule of Dracula. Simon breached the castle walls of the Bernhards' former haunt and met the Lost Soul, whose silent exploits illuminated Simon's amulet and provided him visions of his father's Combat Cross, which was confirmed to have been hidden somewhere in the castle. Simon swore to reclaim the weapon even though the Lost Soul's demeanor was that of discouragement. After procuring a special crystal, at which he originally scoffed, he became enchanted with the Spirit of Belnades, whose robed visage could protect him from enemy onslaughts (though, he never pondered as to the identity of the robed figure); its magic provided him access to the castle proper. Putting to use his growing arsenal, he eventually located the Combat Cross as enshrined in the courtyard, thereafter forcibly retrieving it from the antagonistic Necromancer. In addition to future meetings with the Lost Soul, about whom he was skeptical but somewhat subordinate, he had two run-ins with Alucard, who twice saved his bacon without Simon ever knowing. What Simon gleaned from their exchanges was that Alucard had both knowledge of his family and his own unfinished business with Dracula. Simon's path inexorably convened at the main tower's castle keep, where he rejected the advances of a Succubus, seeing through her illusions, and came face to face with Dracula. As they engaged in a heated exchange, the keep's large doorway slowly opened to reveal Alucard, who added his own ten cents. In following, the two heroes combined their might and after a long struggle extinguished Dracula's flame. At least, this is what Simon believed to have happened. Alucard was more cryptic in his assessment of Dracula's seeming death. Before the matter could be discussed, Alucard shifted focus to Simon's amulet, which he demanded Simon return to the Lost Soul. Though Simon was reluctant to comply, since it represented the only memory of his father, he listened to Alucard's explanation and came to understand that the amulet had been manipulating his destiny from the start; he accepted that it never really belonged to him and parted with it. Despite Simon's further questioning, Alucard never revealed his true identity and inched away after a cold embrace. With no other business, Simon escaped the crumbling castle and watched on from a nearby cliff as it collapse unto itself; from the safety of this perch, he bid one final farewell to Alucard, who absconded in bat form. |
Appearances
Simon
Belmont, like Gabriel Belmont before him, is your typical modern video-game
action hero, dispatching groups of foes with vicious whip combos and violent
finishing moves; he'll learn to execute advanced move-sequences as he levels
up. Simon starts his adventure with the Beast Hunter, which is your standard
whip; he'll eventually procure his father's Combat Cross, which will allow
him to grapple and grab hold of enemies. In addition to two separate defensive
magical spells (the spirits of Belnades and Schneider, respectively), he'll
discover two sub-weapons to supplement the Combat Cross.
