Baba
Yaga was a diminutive witch that resided in an amalgamous treehouse
atop the woodland in Woes Moor. It was here, in the depressive outskirts
of the Land of the Dead, where Yaga put through trials the Brotherhood
of Light members who happened upon her habitat seeking entry into the
Titan's Graveyard. Many of them died in attempting to complete such
trials, sometimes winding up as part of a boiling mix within her cauldron.
When Gabriel Belmont
climbed his way up into her homestead, the eccentric Baba Yaga welcomed
the lost traveler with news that her master, the King of Angels, had
informed her of his arrival. She offered to help him find his way. "Only
in the music box can blue rose grow," Yaga said, her arcane proclamation
confounding him. She promised to reveal to him the path to the Land
of the Dead if he could bring back a blue rose, which she claimed would
make her young again. The blue rose lay within a small, ornate music
box, Yaga explained, and she would use her magic to shrink him down
and insert him into the device, where he'd have to pass a test to procure
the rose. Unfortunately, the music box was locked, and the three special
keys required to open it had been stolen by some local scarecrows; she
requested that he first retrieve these keys and return them to her.
After Gabriel reclaimed the keys, Yaga recited a magical chant that
shrunk him down and allowed him access the music box's innards; after
he successfully cleared the trial and returned with the blue rose, the
erratically joyous Baba Yaga indeed kept her promise, using her magic
to this time transport him to the Titan's Graveyard.
