How did the Video Game Museum get started?
- Started by Mek on August 20, 1999
out of his need to have screenshots for as many games as possible,
the site was originally called Gamepics.
On December 12, 1999 the first game scans were added to the site and they became
so popular that by January 14, 2000 the sub-site Gamescans was online,
followed quickly by merging off these two sites into the Video Game Museum,
launching officially on January 26, 2000.
In the following months and years after the merge, more sections such as
Game Endings, Sprite Rips,
Game Ads and Game Reviews were added,
various redesigns were applied to the site, several staff members joined and
left building the VGMuseum as it is today.
The site is updated and maintained by staff members Rey and Oli with Mek serving
as the webmaster.
I want to send in games for Gamepics, how many should I send?
- You can send as many images as you want.
Or enough to get a good look at the title screen, introduction, character select screen, story intermissions, boss preludes, level bosses, different levels and anything else that might look interesting.
Please don't take a pack of screen captures of the same looking part of a level,
instead take one or two shots of each stage as long as it looks different.
Example: A game like Pac Man doesn't need a lot of images since all the levels look basically the same,
but a game like Super Mario World would since the levels and world maps are varied.
- If you are in doubt about the quality of your contributions, compare them with the other Gamepics or Gamescans of that system.
