Chapter 2: Forest monsters.
Forest swamp, Warakiya. The 21st of October 1688 A.D.
Even dough the sun tried to light the marsh as good it could, it already looked like there would be yet another rainy day. Black clouds where drifting in from the north and heavy drops of rain did hit Simon's red hair as well as his shoulder-plates. The few piles of snow which lay here and there where rottin as he watched them and the murky water and slippery mud made it difficult to move. Christina threw a fireball at a cluster of ravens flying at them, but the rain seemed like it was taking out the fire. Lucky for them, it looked like these birds where just birds. But that wasn't the toads who where jumping out from the high grass. Simon took a sip of the antidote potion as the little creature did jump at him. He cracked the Vampire Killer and the leathery whip did quick work of the little pest. Simon crossed himself as the toads finally skater and it became silent. "Look." Christina suddenly shouted. "I think that moss looked at me." "You must be joking." Simon said. "The moss can't possibly…" His meaning went unfinished as the shapes of men, carved out of moss, did rise from the ground. "God save our souls." Christina silently exclaimed as she spread her arms and made two crisscrossing fireballs shoot forward. Simon nodded as he cracked his whip and attaked some other of the moss-men. They attacked the two with sharp-pointed branch-claws and made bleeding rips appare on Simon's forearm. The shell-shaped armour-plate he'd tied to protect his arms did hinder it from inflicting more damage. The cracking of bones and slippery foot-steps was the only warning before a group of lizardmen, protected with spiky armours created of leather and shell, and bone-scimitars came wandering through the mud. The lizardmen brought out bows and arrows as the skeletons drew their swords and prepared their shields. "Take out the moss-men." Simon said as he threw vials of holy water at the arrows. "I'm working on it." Christina said as she threw fireballs who became half unlit by the still falling rain. The holy water also did well against the bone-scimitars. They where weaker than they should've bean, Simon conclueded, cuse the sun was up. But the lizardmen where a far bigger threat. Now that Simon fought them at hand-to-hand combat, the twisted creatures had brought forth their own curved swords and was holding their own against his whip-slashes. He put holy water on the leather and upon the throwing-cross and such gave them more power. He gasped for breath, the rain no longer cooling him. Christina threw fireballs, taking out the remaining moss-men and such continued to attack the bone-scimitars with her staf alone. Simon had to recognise her courage as she did fight rod agains sword with the scimitars. She did a quick batk-flip, like the one she'd used to counter Simon's attack and crushed the skull of the scimitar facing her. Simon swung his whip and the two bone-scimitars trying to kill her from behind burst into fire. Then, it was all over. Simon leaned against a tree while Christina looked around for running enemies. "We did it Simon!" She exclaimed. "Dracula sent an entire mob at us and we took them down." Simon shook his head. "I have a bad feeling about this." He said as he filled in water from a pond nearby. "They had enough soldiers to take us down." Christina looked around on the piles of bones and burning corpses. "You're right." She said. "There must be something else going on." As he placed the vials back in his belt, a blob of water splashed from the bond and sent him on his back. He grunted painfully. "That felt like a fist to the jaw." He got to his feet as Christina used her wind-spell to take out yet another water-blob flying from the water. "I think we'll be best of getting out from here." She said as she sent more wind at water-blobs rising from the other ponds. "Good idea." Simon grunted as he caressed the place the blob had hit him.

Forest swamp, Warakiya. The 21st of October 1688 A.D.
Christina screamed and Simon was close to join here. From the ponds, huge warms, the sice of a man or even longer, rouse to slide towards them. Then, still at some distance away, the giant worms lunged their heads at them. Simon cracked the leathery Vampire Killer whip and made, to his surprise, them turn into flames. "It looks like the biggest and most ugly servants are the weakest." Christina commented as she threw a bolt of lightning from her hand. Simon backed away from the ponds as the lightning make tiny explosions erupt. "I think its best you ask them." He said as he pointed at a pack of muscular two-headed lizardmen submerging from other more deep ponds. "God preserve us!" Christina said as the four two-headed beast shot fireball at them. Simon rouse his crucifix, summoning his faith, manifesting a silvery-coloured cross-shaped barricade appare before him. Christina made repeated bolts of lightning struck down, making the creatures burst into pices. Blood and flesh flew all over the swamp and the remaining two-headed lizardmen threw more fireballs as they cowardly retreated back into the swamp. "Well," Simon said as he dryed his red hair of raindrops. "that surely answer my question." A weak grin appared on his face. "Not that it was an important one." "I'm think I understand." Christina jestingly said. As they went forward, they came upon another deep pound, the rain hindering them seeing the other end of the pond. But this time however, there was an old wooden bridge leading across the murky water. "I think I'll go first this time." Simon said. "And don't try using any lightning. If the bridge start burning it's no other way going across." Christina grinned at him. "Tell me about it." Returning the grin, Simon stepped out on the bridge. Soon however, Christina went after him. "Stop!" Simon shouted. "It's those bubbles again." But this time, he was wrong. From the water, creatures moulded out of water rouse to face them. Simon cracked his whip just as he threw some daggers at them. The daggers flew right through them and disappeared into the murky water. "Twisted." He cursed. Then looked down and noticed they where back on his belt. The whip-slashes however, had made the one he hit burst into fire. Christina waved her rod and made ice-crystals blast at them. "I don't think that will do against water-creatures." Simon began, then stared as the watery entities broke into water-blobs and wanished back into the murky liquid. "I don't like this." She commented, Simon put his arms around her. "You're free to turn back whenever you want." He warmly said. "Thank you." She said. "But no. We are the same. We bought have a duty to fulfil." He nodded as he let go of her. "Tell me," Simon asked as they continued to walk. "if you're so determined, where's your cousin Albert Erlanger?" Christina gave forth a weak smile. "He's staing at the farm, looking out for her daughter." A somewhat sad look appared on Simon's face. "I can't hinder thinking it's sad you're the last in line to possess the name Belnades." Another flock of ravens came flying out of the rainy darkness and Christina threw a series of fireballs at them. "Someday a name will die, but the blood of my clan will never die. Adrian Fernandez is a good man and so is my other cousin, Issac Renard." "I didn't intend to…" Simon began, then became silence as a square of solid rock appared before them. Upon it, a pillar created by two dragon-children's skulls stood. Beyond it, another wooden bridge continued into the marsh. And as they watched, another pack of armed lizardmen and bone-scimitars came out of the rainy shadows beyond the platform. Christina stepped forward, then Simon grabed her and drew her backwards. "That's a pillar of bones." He hissed. "It might…" Before he could finish, the skull breathed a fierce row of fireballs at them. "Thanks." She said as she made a bolt of lightning struck down, destroying the topmost of the skulls. Just as it did so, the remaining one breathed a heavy flame, then the lizardmen and bone-scimitars attacked. Simon dropped to one knee and sent his boomerang-cross forward to take out the last skull and then just as quick threw a trio of daggers at the enemies running at them. Two bone-scimitars fell backwards and even dough they weren't destroyed, they where out of the way for the time being. The last one cut into a lizardman, making it burst into fire. "Thank You for that one God." He smiled as the dagger returned to him and he cracked the Vampire Killer at the remaining onslaught. Christina was at Simon's side now, brandishing her rod, cracking the skulls and bones of bought lizardmen and scimitars as she went along. "Gargoyles coming in!" Simon shouted. "Take them out as I continue taking out these baddies." "God be with you." She shouted as she run past him to make some open space to fight on. "Then there where us." Simon nearly snarled. "God in Heaven how I dislike you." He cracked the Vampire Killer again and again as he threw the boomerang-cross at the ones avoiding the whip. Christina made lightning strike and fireballs flew forward as the gargoyles who'd haunted them all this long flew at them. Then fishmen came from behind. "Twisted!" She cried as the aquatic creature drew her with it underwater. "Christina!" Simon shouted as he dispatched the final scimitars and ran to where she'd vanished into the water. He turned around just to avoid getting burned by a fireball thrown by one of the remaining gargoyles. He threw the axe and turned his faith on it, making it split into a multiply of axes. The gargoyles where reduced to pieces of dead rock and he turned on the fishmen jumping at him. In the water, Christina made a frozen crystal hammer into the fishmen surrounding her, but the fishman holding her refuced to let go of her. She was already going out of breath. She brought out a vial of holy water and poured it over the fishman who finally let go of her. She looked around, don't knowing where to swim. Then she saw a familiar form before her. On the bridge aboce, Simon did throw himself into the water. Thanking God in his hearth as she saw her mere metres away. But now more fishmen was swimming in again and they couldn't held their breath forever. With continued fierce, Christina continued to trust ice-crystals and holy water at the fismen. She smiled as she noticed Simon did threw more holy water at the pack who again skatered to avoid them. With a gasp of relief, simon drew in fresh air. And even dough it was somewhat dank thank to the falling rain, it still felt like the best thing he'd tasted in his entire life. "Well," Christina said at his side. "that was a nice bath." The dress was sticking to her body and Simon looked away with red cheecks. "Don't be shy." She half-serious said as she did bring the wet cloth in order. "Why shouldn't we be proad by the way God created us?" Simon shrugged. "I suppose so. We could always ask father Paul and father Nathan about it when we return." They got to their feet and continued going along the second bridge.

Forest swamp, Warakiya. The 21st of October 1688 A.D.
As they did wander down the bridge, it soon came to an end as they reached another stone-aquare built around the opening of a cave from which the water ran. This time, Simon didn't had to drag Christina backwards as the first of the two pillar of bones on the platform started breathing fireballs in a waved pattern. She simply made lightning strike, taking out the flames. Simon cracked his whip. But it took him three direct hit before the pillar of bone burst into fire. As Christina moved in for the second one, the swamp rouse against them. Fishmen jumped from the water as giant worms reached with their heads out from the tunnel's opening. Christina tossed fireballs at the worms, leaving it to Simon to take care of the fishmen and the pillar of bones. He threw a vial of holy water at the pillar, making the top-skull explode, before turning to crack the Vampire Killer at the fishmen. Just as the first fishman became destroyed, water-blobs rouse and threw him clean into the water. Christina turned and with ice-crystals brought down the final skull of the pillar and the few remaining water-blobs. "Not again." She mumbled as she jumped into the water. "Adrian will kill me." Simon was cracking his which at all and every fishman who come in his way. He was just about to reach the surface as he noticed a creature which made his blood turn cold. Crossing himself, he swam as fast he could to where he hoped the surface would be. He noticed a hand grasping for his, dragging him along. But he didn't opened his eyes. "Simon," He hear a familiar voice ask. "what's wrong wit you?" "She is here." Simon said with a low voice. Christina moved to look, then Simon's hand touched her wrist, keeping her back. "Medusa is here. Don't look, or you'll be turned into stone." She nodded and then determined to vanquish Medusa once and for all, she rouse to her feet. Just as determined, Simon rouse beside her. "God give us His strength and guidance." He said as he cracked the Vampire killer. Even dough the gorgon tried to counter with a bunch of snakes, he managed to land a mark on her forearm. This time neither of them threw up as they saw snakes crawl from the wound. And even dough Simon wanted to, he held his ground and threw another vial of holy water. Medusa again threw a bonundle of snakes and this time she countered his attack. Just then, Christina shot an ice-crystal at her, making the wound freexe close. For a moment, Medusa was short of snakes and then Simon threw the axe and made it split into many. He landed many hit, but now, the ice-spell was out and their enemy had new snakes to throw at them. "Don't stop!" Simon encouraged Christina who was falling back by the onslaught of snakes. He swung the whip and used his brandishing technique to take out the snakes Medusa was throwing. "You cannot defeat me." The gorgon giggled. "I did live millins of years before you where borne." Simon cut her short. "But then Hercules did search you out and destroyed you, freeing the Pegasus you had digested." Medusa shot him a beaming gaze. Christina used the opportunity to throw a blaze of ice-crystal at the gorgon-mother. She screamed in pain and fell back toward the cave. "You shall not escape us this time." Simon stated as he, after taking a sip from his antidote potion, threw vials of holy water. Inspired by his determination, Christina made repeated lightning strike and Medusa spread her arms and purst into tiny snakes who crawled into the water. "I thank you, young Belmont." A soft friendly old man's voice said. They bought gasped as a humanoid creature hooded and cloaked in a monk's garb stood where Medusa had bean. The strange monk brought out a horn and started playing. Simon reached out with his hand, not knowing wy, and a pair of laurels appared into his palm. "Concentrate your faith in it." The strange monk said. "And it will heal your wounds." Then he continued playing and vanished into a blur of celestial light. "Well," He said as he put the laurels into his purse. "what do we do now?" Christina shrugged. "We could always continue through the swamp." Simon commented. "But I think the best would be to enter that cave. It goes north and that's where we're to go." Christina nodded. "I'm no tracker. That's your department. So, let's go." Simon clapped her shoulder and they went inside the tunnel.

She opened her eyes. What had happened? She couldn't remember anything after offering her services to Medusa. Now, the late afternoon was turning to dusk. She felt how the dark powers was lingering just as her fingertips. It would soon return to her. In the meantime, she would use her powers to try track the Belmont and his side-kick.. She smelled the air and soon picked up the scent of the Belmont and started jogging into the marsh.

Underground river, Warakiya. The 21st of October 1688 A.D.
"God's death." Simon cursed as the strange spell shrouding the cave made the tide change. Even so, it was lucky for him that he did so, since the pillar of bones before them breathing fireballs missed him by mere centimetres. Christina gathered energy around her, drew her dress up to her knees, lifted her right foot and threw herself foreward. The dive-kick did smash into the pillar of bones and destroyed the top-most of the skulls. Simon cracked the Vampire Killer and finished off the other one. As they continued through the cave, another cluster of gargoyles came flying at them. He again cracked his whip and threw his axe at them. Christina spawned ice-crystals from her rod and made them burst into frozen pices. "Watch out!" Simon shouted. "There's spikes…" Before he could finish his meaning she noticed the stone-spikes rising out from the ankle-deep water. They jumped across and thus nearly pined themselves at the spikes placed in one of the pillar-like stones. "Clever." Simon mumbled as he swung his whip at some water-blobs rising from the water. "You could always complement them." Christina dryly commented as another group of bone-scimitars and fishmen came walking through the water. "Smooth." Simon smiled as he brought out his throwing-cross and sprinkled it with holy water. Christina brandished her staff, making burst of fire, wind or ice blazing from it as she met the blades of the bone-scimitars. Simon was still amazed how a simple wooden rod could deflect steel. He remembered his father had said something about that, but what it was, he couldn't remember. As he fought forward, a water-beam spat by one of the fishmen sent him splashing on his back. Luckily for him, he'd fought past the spikes. "I'm coming Simon!" Christina shouted and sent a wave of fireballs blasting forward. Simon got to his feet in time to see her make fire erupt around the enemies, only to be put out by the river's water. But even dough they managed to put out the fire, they didn't felt like continue the battle as they ran away. For a moment, they stood there just breathing heavily. "I think I see light over there." Simon finally said. "Let's check it out." Christina suggested. They stepped forward and extended upon a cliff outside of the water. "It's a cave right in front of us." Simon said as he looked around. "I think…" Christina began, then the river froze. "I don't like this." She instead said. "Tell me about it." Simon dryly commented. He cast a look around himself at the frozen water. "I don't like this either." Christina said. Simon nodded as a smile appared on his face. "We'll do as God bids us." He said. Then he recoiled his whip as they walked into the new cave.

He did wave his hand and from the ice rouse a throne of solid frost. Smiling, the ice-lord sat down upon it. Gaibon flapped his wings at his side, his face and body hidden underneath the black shroud, shook his head. "Lord Dracula don't like his servants taking to much privilege on his and the Dark One's power." Being the subornment of Death had made the demon a rather pompous individual, but he was of course right. "I don't think lord Dracula will be humiliated by me sitting in the throne I have right to sit in." "Of course." Gaibon said as he turned and started flying away. "I shall report your doings to Death and Lord Dracula." He absent-mindedly nodded. If he could destroy the Belmont, lord Dracula, Death and Winter would be proud of him. To be an apprentice of Winter, the lord of the fourth session of the order of the One, was no servant of the Dark One and his choice to serve lord Dracula didn't had anything to do with that. Only the simple thing that Winter liked faithful service in his aprentices's side-services. So be if it was toward lord Dracula and would serve him as best he could.
