Debug Menu

The debug menu, often left unlinked within the contents of a game's files, is the developers' playground for testing the integrity of their game's programming. You can gain instant access to Harmony's debug menu using a GameShark and the following code:

GameShark Code:
  A69F532E DBCA6A04
    9A86D92A 635F8DBC

After applying the code, use a soft reset to gain entry into the debug menu; it has eight available options plus "Exit," which exits the debug mode and starts the game as normal. Not including "Sound Mode" and "Staff Roll," which link directly to the same sound test and credits sequence already accessible, I'll give a brief explanation of each option with screenshots where applicable.

GAME

The "GAME" option takes you to a sub-menu whose ten options represent different areas in the game. You can select to drop into and start the game from any area you so please, down to the exact room if you toggle the number that appears to an area-name's right side.

TEST_VIEW

"TEST VIEW" takes you to the debug menu's sprite-viewing tools, of which there are four. Sadly, they lack the functionality you'd expect and allow only for the toggling of three separate properties--but only for demonstration purposes.

TAKEDA

"TAKEDA" allows you test your skills against any from a collection of forty-six of the game's enemies. Though, some are repeat enemies with instead special conditions; there are, for example, two battles with boss Pazuzu--one merely featuring a pre-battle animation sequence. The testing ground is your average Boss Rush room, and exiting left at any time will result in Juste becoming trapped in a stairway-connecting room until you reset the software.

MIURA

"MIURA," to the contrary, is a party only for two. That is, its selection will immediately drop you off in a room whose resident is a single bat, which will lunge at you from its resting place on the chamber's ceiling. Whether you wait around or exit left, thereafter, is irrelevant, as a software reset is all that will save you from this purgatory.

HIROHARA

"HIROHARA" is a second enemy test--your opponents this time a more select crowd (mainly the nine names you see listed above). The battle location is the same as is the empty reward. It should be noted that Juste approaches all such enemy-test battles at his lowest possible level, making at least for a challenge.

INOUE

"INOUE" is our third and final enemy testing ground. This selection entails a long list of forty-nine encounters for Juste to task. Perform well and you're likely to gain a whole level, which you should then celebrate by soft-resetting.
