Sypha Belnades

Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate
Sypha appears in the Act I intro, where she protects Simon, and the Act III intro, where she consoles Trevor

Sypha Belnades was the wife of Trevor Belmont and the mother of Simon Belmont. Brave and caring, she questioned the Brotherhood of Light's motives in withholding from Trevor news of his father's true identity but stood by him when, distressed, he rationalized having to confront Dracula in order to defend the Belmont family's honor. She stood at the doorstep, Simon by her side, watching as Trevor prepare to leave for his mission; as he stopped for a moment to come to their embrace, Trevor took Sypha into his arms and requested that she flee into the forest if he were not able to return be dawn, forever leaving the village behind and starting a new life for herself and their son. Accepting of his plea, her hand caressing his face, she offered only one wish: "Come back to us, my love."

When Trevor ultimately failed in his mission, Dracula as revenge for the assassination attempt ordered his dark forces to invade and destroy their village, which resided within the Brotherhood's covenant. Taken as a clear sign that Trevor would not be returning, Sypha, as silently promised, grabbed Simon's hand and fled toward the encompassing woodland; soon after she tripped, falling to her knees, a pack of werewolves was able to run down the pair. Without even considering her own well-being, she turned to the terrified Simon and ordered him to keep going--to run as fast as he could into the forest and not look back. The werewolves pounced on the prone Sypha and ended her life without any in the way of mercy, the very sounds and memory of which for years haunted Simon's dreams.

The dark forces captured Sypha's soul and fused it to a crystal shard that became known as The Spirit of Belnades, which as her quintessence offered its possessor protection from enemy attacks. Not making the connection between the magic crystal and his mother, the older, battle-tested Simon took possession of the artifact after initially scoffing at it. It was briefly ripped from his care by the Necromancer, who in taunting used it as a surrogate for Simon's insecurities, stating it was "just like him to hide behind a woman." He nevertheless retrieved the crystal, which continued to assist him by repelling aggressive foes, shielding him from the castle's curse-infected waters, and making contact with the Spirit of Schneider, which stood militant but agreed to aid Simon after Sypha reached out to him.
