Mega Man and Bass

Mega Man and Bass is a Japanese game that was only available for the Super Famicom in Japan. It has no real place in the Mega Man storyline. And even if it did, the import offers me no clue, as all the text is in Japanese. The game itself borrows heavily from Mega Man 8 for PSX, even featuring 4 of its bosses.

Pirate Man

Pirate Man lurks below the ocean waters, hidden in a sunken ship. His main attack is to shoot out 3 consecutive remote mines, each going directly in Mega Man's direction. Also, he'll encase himself in a bubble and either hover back and forth or bounce all over the room.

  • Weapon used: Remote Mine
  • Weak against: Wave Burner and Tengu Blade

Burner Man

With a combination of speed and fire, Burner Man isn't the kind of boss you want to face with no lives left. His chamber has beds of spikes on either side. He'll always start the battle by dashing back and forth quickly. He then alternates between other attacks: (1) Hovering mid-screen and dashing downward in Mega Man's direction, (2) Throwing 3 flytraps to the ground, trying to get Mega Man to walk into one, (3) Using his wave burner repeatedly, trying to get Mega Man to back up into the spikes.

  • Weapon used: Wave Burner
  • Weak against: Ice Wall

Dynamo Man

Quite possibly the most annoying boss in Mega Man history. He only has 3 attacks of note: (1) He'll quickly jump and dash around the room, (3) He'll make 4 electric spheres appear, each seeking Mega Man, and (3) He'll make spheres circle himself, using their energy to generate powerful lightning bolts from the ceiling. The bad part is: When his energy is low, he'll jump to the top of the screen where an energy replenisher awaits him; it'll slowly recharge all his energy unless Mega Man attacks it from both sides, which is time-consuming. He can do this anytime he wants.

  • Weapon used: Lightning Bolt
  • Weak against: Copy Vision

Magic Man

Magic Man relies upon his many tricks to get the job done. His first trick involves throwing out his slashing cards, them returning to him like a boomerang. He'll also generate a quick, blue magnetic spark, which shoots quickly but doesn't return. Finally, he'll loop a balloon forward, it popping and releasing 3 little birds. He can also have little power-up-grabbing enemies walk across the floor during the battle.

  • Weapon used: Magic Card
  • Weak against: Tengu Blade, Spread Drill and Wave Burner

Cold Man

While Cold Man doesn't have a lot of attacks, he uses the ones he has effectively. Many times, he'll form an ice wall and push it towards Mega Man, it bouncing off the wall before it breaks apart. When he jumps across the screen, he'll momentarily freeze sections of the floor; if he catches Mega Man in one, he'll quickly push an ice wall his way. Finally, he'll start generating an attack cloud to grab and hold Mega Man while he continues his ice wall attack.

  • Weapon used: Ice Wall
  • Weak against: Lightning Bolt and Wave Burner

Ground Man

Ground Man is very reminiscent of Drill Man. On the ground, he has two kinds of attacks: He'll move under the dirt on the ground and try to pop up unexpectedly, and he'll transform into a small drill mobile and dash back and forth. As a 3rd attack, he'll dig his way into the ceiling and start stabbing down with 3 huge spinning drills. After doing that 3 times, he'll return to the ground.

  • Weapon used: Spread Drill
  • Weak against: Remote Mine

King

King allegedly stole all of Dr. Wily's robots, using them to do his own bidding. After destroying Proto Man, he made it personal with Mega Man. When encountered, he'll use his shield to channel attacks and use them to shoot out energy beams. When Proto Man intervenes, he'll sacrifice himself to take out King's shield. Shieldless, King will jump back and forth, using his big axe to try to chop Mega Man in half. When defeated, Wily will appear, revealing his plot; also, he'll buy King time as he powers him up.

  • Weak against: Lightning Bolt

Ultimate King

Now more powerful, King will command this huge metallic beast, it having 4 different attacks: (1) It'll rev up and dash into Mega Man, (2) It'll generate a powerful full-screen laser attack, (2) It throws out a little sphere that circles Mega Man, hurting him if he moves, and (3) It'll drop bombs—4 in all—onto the ground. The capsule containing King is the tank's only weak point.

  • Weak against: Wave Burner

Wily Ship #1

Wily was behind the whole thing, of course. His new ship has a couple of attacks of its own: (1) It'll throw the round blade, located on the bottom, either rolling or bouncing forward, (2) It'll drop and blast 2 torpedoes forward, (3) It'll charge into Mega Man, (4) It'll shoot a progressively- spreading electrical attack, and (5) It'll power up and unleash a short, powerful beam attack.

  • Weak against: Remote Mine

Wily Ship #2

Yep--another teleporting ship. While doing the usual teleporting, he'll unleash 3 different kinds of attacks: (1) The 4-circle chasing projectiles (last seen in Mega Man 7), 4 bombs that slowly follow Mega Man around, and (3) An expanding-range circular spread shot. The capsule containing Wily is the only vulnerable area.

  • Weak against: Magic Card
