Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
He appears in the Dance Hall, the Arena--where he regains his memory--and then the Floating Garden for a confrontation. He makes a final appearance in the second-best ending
Julius helps to further along the plot in sequences at the castle entrance in the Lost Village, in the Condemned Tower, in the Silenced Ruins, and finally in the game's best ending

Something happened to this man, J, in 1999 that left him mentally scarred--he was inflicted with a case of amnesia caused by a traumatic incident. There were only two things he could remember: He knew that (a) he possessed amazing magical powers and (b) he was very fearful of the resurrection of Count Dracula.

In 2035, that sense of fear led him to Castlevania, where he searched endlessly in hope that something would trigger the return of his memory. It was his separate meetings with the young Soma Cruz that served as the spark; his sensing of Soma's dark power helped him to remember that his name was Julius Belmont, the vampire hunter who sealed Dracula's fate in 1999.

Immediately, he was somehow sure that Soma--and not Graham Jones, as Yoko had guessed--was Dracula incarnate. But there was enough reason to give Soma the benefit of the doubt at least until he could find his Vampire Killer whip, which he had sealed away in the castle as a symbol to further weaken Dracula's spirit.

Eventually, having reclaimed his weapon, he caught up with Soma and challenged him to a battle; though, he took it easy on the young man because he continued to sense Soma's true spirit. So when the restrained Julius inevitably fell in this battle, he knew that his only role was to encourage Soma to move on, to destroy the source of leaking power. Furthermore, Julius agreed to Soma's last wish: If he were to lose the final battle and thus become the Dark Lord incarnate, he asked that Julius once again fulfill his family's destiny and "kill Dracula." In the end, to his relief, Julius instead watched from a distance as Soma Cruz destroyed the chaos essence and succeeded in resealing the castle in the soon-to-end eclipse.

Following these events, the aging Julius Belmont decided to join in the undertakings of the Catholic Church. When Celia Fortner's new cult became a target of the Church's investigation, whereby it was known that the cult planned to resurrect the Dark Lord, Julius had no choice but to lead the mission. With Yoko Belnades assigned as his aid, he left for the cult's hideout--a large castle in the snowy mountain regions of Europe. Though, he had no intention of dragging her along; when they arrived at the entrance of the castle, he used his super jumping ability to breach the entrance and thus left her behind.

Julius' investigation led him to a a condemned castle tower, where he found a well-protected barrier. Its force was too great for him to bypass without rendering himself seriously impaired and thus useless to the mission. Instead, he'd head back to catch up with Yoko and Arikado to relay these happenings and see if they'd made better progress. Julius instead crossed paths with Dario, who made quick work of the vampire hunter. It was Soma Cruz who came to the rescue and chased Dario off. The thankful Belmont urged Soma to give chase, to forge on and reach the castle's heights.

Later, when all that stood in the way of victory was that very same barrier, Julius used every ounce of his legendary powers to shatter it and allow the others access to the portal within. "Getting old is a terrible thing," he said, with the great disappointment that he could not join them. But his sacrifice would not be forgotten, his contribution not without the highest merit. After the heroes scored victory, Julius met with them and the rest of the group outside the collapsed castle. The celebration was as much his.
