Item Name: Silver Knife Used By: Simon Belmont This
silver knife can be obtained only
in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and only by locating a
mysterious figure in a graveyard. The knife has both more range and
strength than the typical dagger sub-weapon, but the boost is mostly
negligible, and its range isn't much longer; it may not be worth the
one precious heart it takes to activate it. |
Item Name: Golden Knife Used By: Simon Belmont Another
weapon only wielded by Simon in Simon's Quest, this dagger is
the most powerful of its kind. When a golden knife makes contact with
an enemy, it'll strike the hapless foe multiple times before its visage
fades. It also has the best range of three dagger types, traveling a
full screen's-length. Truly, it's the best weapon of choice against
even Dracula, who will be helpless to escape its grasp. |
Item Name: Diamond Used By: Simon Belmont and Alucard It was Simon who gained possession of the the diamond during his Simon's Quest adventure. When tossed, it rebounds about the room at 45-degree angles until it strikes an enemy or travels into a pit or doorway. Since the Symphony version is smaller and lighter (and referred to as the "rebound stone"), it's afforded the ability to rebound faster, at many angles, and strike multiple times. |
Item Name: Mystic Flame Used By: Simon Belmont This
mystic flame is very similar to holy water. When thrown to the ground,
in the expected arc, the fiery sub-weapon settles into position then
sends upward a wall of slow-rising, continually burning flame. Enemies
that foolishly travel unto the flame will be become caught in its net
and suffer multiple hits until the flame disperses. |
Item Name: Garlic Used By: Simon Belmont A
classic weapon of vampire hunters, garlic can be used to either harm
enemies or to uncover secrets in graveyard-type areas. If enemies walk
near it, they'll become entranced, trapped by its aroma and repeatedly
damaged until until they're destroyed. Though effective as a weapon,
it's too precious to waste--you'll instead need it to summon forth the
lost souls who will provide you stronger weapons. |
Item Name: Oak Stake Used By: Simon Belmont Though in myth a standard hunting weapon for vampire-slaying heroes, who will often plunge it deep into a vampire's heart, the Simon's Quest version of the oak stake is used only as the sub-weapon potent enough to crack the sealed orbs that contain Dracula's body parts. Simon will of course have to purchase oak stakes from the mansion-inhabited salesmen, who will part with one for a hefty fifty hearts a pop. For that price, hope that your aim is true. |
Item Name: Holy Book Used By: Juste Belmont, Richter Belmont and Alucard When
activated, a magic book will spiral around the hero, progressively
outward, forming a
temporary shield/projectile storm as its sharp pages proceed to rip
at surrounding enemies while giving the hero some safe space. The Symphony
of the Night version instead whips back and forth, protecting the
hero for a short period of time. |
Item Name: Key Used By: Christopher Belmont and Richter Belmont The key, functioning as a sub-weapon, appears in the the Dracula X titles and Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth, in which it serves the purpose of opening locked doors. In Rondo, it's a door in the watery cavern of Stage 2. In the SNES game, it's the locked doors on Stages 4 and 5. In Rebirth, they're everywhere. In the Dracula X games, it can also be used for a blunt, short-ranged striking attack; the damage it deals is slight, though the fee is precisely zero hearts. |
Item Name: Laurel Used By: Simon Belmont In Simon's
Quest, Simon can purchase magical herbs that can be used to render
him invincible for a short period of time. Overpowered in that sense,
the creators dropped it from the arsenal until it returned in Akumajou
Dracula X68000, toned down but still very useful. Instead, Simon
can now use it as a limited energy-restoring sub-weapon at a cost of
only ten hearts per use. |
Item Name: Crystal / Spear Head Used By: John Morris and Eric Lecarde In Bloodlines, finding a hidden spellbook will earn you this temporary sub-weapon, which replaces the one current--until you take damage, wherein it'll be lost. When used by John, a blue flame emerges and blasts forward, seeking the closest enemy, who will be engulfed and damaged repeatedly by the burning flame. Eric, instead, releases in all directions and for a long period green balls of flame, which damage whatever they strike. In either case, the spell costs ten hearts. |
|
Item Name: Aguen Used By: Richter Belmont and Alucard Though it seems that this sacred lightning is only capable of damaging enemies a single time, Aguen is actually another engulfing-type item; it's important to know that repeatedly tapping the attack button commands it to expel lightning bolts in all directions, the surrounding enemies susceptible to multiple hits; the lightning will continue to strike until your hearts are completely drained or until you let go of the button. |
Item Name: Bibuti Used By: Richter Belmont and Alucard Bibuti
is another holy water-like item: The hero will throw onto the ground
deadly ashes that slowly disintegrate; during this period, any enemy
that passes over the ashes will become trapped in the destructive net
and caused repeated damaged before they're able to escape--and that's
if they manage to escape. |
Item Name: Sacred Fist Used By: Juste Belmont The
Sacred Fist is the only sub-weapon that beckons a physical response
from its user. By activating the fist, Juste Belmont will stretch out
his arms to release a flurry of long-range flaming punches (similar
to E. Honda's 1,000-hand slap),
the maneuver's very force slowly inching him forward. Enemies caught
in the attack's path will be repeatedly damaged by the storm of jabs. |
Item Name: Magic Cross Used By: Julius Belmont Though the "boomerang" and "the cross"have always been considered one in the same, it was Julius Belmont who instituted a separation and out of one created two: The namesake, the typical boomerang seen elsewhere on this list, and this--the new magic cross. When activated, Julius hovers in the air, invincible, while a giant flaming cross forms behind him and burns repeatedly. Any enemy that makes contact with the cross will be damaged heavily and often. |
Item Name: Crystal Used By: Leon Belmont The
crystal is hardly an "addition. " It was one of the original
sub-weapons found by Leon back in the 11th century. When the crystal
is activated, it hovers in place and then explodes several |
Item Name:
Puppet Used
By: Old Axe Armor
They've taken their weapons; stolen their souls and used their abilities on their own; mimicked their attacks; and now the heroes have recruited one of Dracula's own to their side. That is, you'll unlock and control Old Axe Armor in Portrait of Ruin. His lone sub-weapon is the "puppet" (borrowed from soul-stealer Soma), which he'll toss to a location--usually beyond a barrier he can't breach--and magically switch places with it. He can't fully navigate the castle without it. |
Item Name: Torpor Crystal Used By: Albus The
torpor crystal is unlockable hero Albus' only special/sub-weapon. After
Albus tosses one of these crystals to the ground, it fractures, and
out from its remains sprouts a series of much larger crystals,
which displace, stab and overwhelm any enemy that was walking over them.
Since the larger crystals generally take up a lot of space, the complete
weapon's range is particularly wide. |
